Australian students
Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who obtain First Class Honours can apply for a PhD or Masters Degree.
- PhD Studentships valued at $28,927 (tax free) per annum are available (2009 rate).
- There are no tuition fees or HECS payments.
- To be eligible, you must apply for, and be granted, an Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) which provides a stipend of $20,427 per annum (2009 rate). This will be supplemented by a UWA Top-Up Scholarship of $5,000 per annum and a COFS top-up scholarship of $3,500 per annum (2009 rate). The scholarships are tax free.
- Applications for study in second semester 2009 open on 2 June 2009 and close on 17 July 2009.
- Applications for study in first semester 2010 open on 3rd August 2009 and close on 30th October 2009.
International students
- If you are not an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen, you can apply for an International Postgraduate Research Scheme Scholarship, which provides a stipend of $20,427 per annum tax free (2009 rate). This will be supplemented by a UWA Top-Up Scholarship of $5,000 per annum and a COFS top-up scholarship of $3,500 per annum (2009 rate).

Indian students
- If you are an Indian citizen then you can apply for the UWA India SIRF scholarship which provides a stipend of $25,427 per annum (2009 rate) which may be supplemented by a COFS top-up scholarship of $3,500 per annum (2009 rate).
- A condition attached to this award is that all applicants must be able to commit to funding personally or have a commitment from a recognised sponsor fifty percent (50%) of the full tuition fees for up to 2 years for a Masters of Research degree and up to 4 years for a PhD.

Chinese students
- If you are a citizen or permanent resident of China and you are currently in China then you can apply for the UWA China Scholarship (China Scholarship Council - UWA Joint PhD Scholarships). They provide a stipend of $25,427 per annum (2009 rate). This may be supplemented by a COFS top-up scholarship of $3,500 per annum (2009 rate).
- Applications for study in 2010 open on 17 August 2009 and close 16 October 2009.
How to apply
- Achieve a First Class Honours class degree.
- Apply for an Australian Postgraduate Awards scholarship or the Postgraduate scholarships for International students before the closing date.
- Choose and contact a supervisor before you apply as you will need a provisional title and outline of your research topic.
