Building for the future: the Lloyd's Register Foundation Centre of Excellence at COFS and UWA
The Lloyd's Register Foundation (LRF) supports the advancement of engineering-related education, and funds research and development that enhances safety of life at sea, on land or in the air. Over the next five years COFS will model the geotechnical behaviour of offshore foundations and predict the risk of their failure.
The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust (LRET) in 2010, awarded COFS a grant, to fund a Chair and a Research Centre of Excellence. Subsequently, in 2013, the LRET was assimilated into the newly established parent charity, the Lloyd's Register Foundation (LRF).
Further information about the research carried out at the Lloyd's Register Foundation Centre of Excellence at COFS can be found in the publication "Building for the Future", available to download or hard copy.
The Lloyd’s Register Foundation funding supports research at COFS in the critical areas of deep water engineering, risk and reliability assessment, and marine renewable energy.
Support from Lloyd’s Register Foundation has enabled COFS to make important investments in early career academics by establishing a Chair in Offshore Foundations, appointing four academic and providing additional funding to 11 PhD students.
